Gaynor with her young dog Byron
I was born in South London. I studied at Camberwell School of Art from 1976 to 1979 under John Lidzey.
I joined the Civil Service where I met my husband, we married in 1985 had two children and moved to Suffolk.Whilst there I discovered John Lidzey was compiling books and videos on watercolours. I went to his exhibition in Ipswich in 1993 where it was like stepping back 20 years when I heard his voice. I continued to be one of his students when he ran workshops until his death.

When my children were little they would come sketching with me. Now both in their twenties they have kept their love of art. I still enjoy sketching outdoors. I use watercolours, pastels, acrylics and oils. I love visiting exhibitions especially in London now so easily accessible. I find watercolours the discipline I enjoy most, the tonal quality they offer along with unpredictabiliy of the water on paper is always a challenge. I have sold pieces but never had the time to gather enough work for an exhibition and I am very pleased to be commissioned to paint pictures of peoples pets and I am always pleased to work from photographs.

I made a decision that as the retirement age of women has moved so drastically that there was no point in waiting until I could retire but that I would return to the Sussex coast and gamble that I could relocate my business now.

I love walking along the Ferring and Goring beaches each evening or along the Downs with my darling Golden Retrievers. I am a member of Tarring Art Circle, WAAGS Oil Painters Society and Sussex Plein Air Painters, it is a lovely enthusiastic group using the appreciation and love of art as it's foundation.
